The Clifford Odets Ensemble Play Commission and Directing Fellowship is an annual program that supports emerging playwrights to develop a new play for a pre-selected ensemble of LSTFI students and partners them with emerging directors. The program culminates in a full production in one of our two theatre spaces and is supported by LSTFI’s resources and a full artistic team. This program plays at the end of the Fall session each year.

Clifford Odets, for whom The Commission is named, transformed the American theatre with The Group Theatre and Lee Strasberg. Through the commission, The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute® and The Lee Strasberg Creative Center® partner talented emerging playwrights, directors and Method trained actors, creating an incubator for the development of true ensemble plays in New York City and developing the next generation of collaborating artists.

The Commission thanks the Clifford Odets Estate and Walt Odets for their generous consent to this partnership.

The Lee Strasberg Creative Center® supports the continuous development of our faculty, students, and alumni through workshops and lectures at both US campuses and internationally. The Creative Center and LSTFI is committed to supporting The Lee Strasberg Method professors, scholars, and practitioners internationally to bring The Lee Strasberg Method™ to performing arts communities around the world.
